There is nothing like summer time at the beach; the warmth of the sun, the coolness of a summer breeze, and the sand between your toes. As you take in the beauty of it all your soul finds rest. Unfortunately, all too often as the sun sets and the day is at its end the events of the day take their toll. Your skin has suffered from too much sun, your hair is now tangled into a rats nest, and the sand that felt so good to frolic in is now stuck to everything you own!

I can’t help but notice there is a parallel of the physical to the spiritual. Often times we find ourselves enjoying the very things that in the long run can cause us discomfort and pain. The little things that cling to our lives like sand between our toes; once they brought us joy, but now they irritate the senses. There seems to be no cure, for we could never give up these things as they are a part of the constant enjoyment of the ministries of life.

There is indeed hope for the wariness of a human soul and that is Christ Jesus. “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) It’s not the adventures of life that we miss out on….it’s the rest. Time with our Savior is the equivalent to that much need cool shower after a day in the sun; allowing God to cleanse us daily; gives us a fresh start to the adventures of a new day.
